Preparing to deploy YSI 6600 sonde for a profile

Capabilities:
Water quality

MER uses a Yellow Springs Instruments (YSI) 6600 Series sonde equipped with sensors for depth, temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity.  The sonde is also equipped with a 100-meter cable and a MDS650 handheld display.  The sonde can also be deployed remotely for long-term, unattended recording.  MER uses the YSI 6600 for water column profiling, real-time data collection and depth confirmation on ichthyoplankton tows, and in unattended mode in tandem with current meters for multi-parametric correlations with current velocities and directions.

MER also conducts water sampling for fecal coliform analyses performed by the Maine Department of Marine Resources as part of the National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP), the program that protects public health related to the consumption of shellfish.
